Entry 4

Well, over the long Memorial Day weekend I did my best to keep my new water drinking habit going! I think I did ok, but I can do better. On Sunday I ran about 6 miles as a part of the Burlington marathon. I knew that I needed to drink a lot of water before and after the run. For some reason, after the run I decided to have a ginger ale and an ice cream! I knew my body really water the calories from sugar, but water would have been a better choice. On the first day back to school (Tuesday), I picked up where I left off and drank water throughout the day. I think it is helping my energy level.

Entry 3

I think I am getting a little bit more used to my routine. I've gotten into the habit of looking for my water bottle throughout the day. I noticed that when I think to fill it or take a drink, there is still a part of me that thinks, "I can do that later." Since starting the challenge I am trying to catch that moment and take a drink or fill the bottle rather than push it off as not important. I'm hoping that drinking water throughout the day can become a permanent habit that no longer feels like an add on, but rather something that is just apart of my everyday life.

Entry 2

My first day in my new habit went well! I did bring the bottle of water to school and I filled it up three times throughout the day. At first I forgot about the water bottle and actually left it on someone's desk, but after that I was able to remember. I used the water fountain in the hallway to fill my water bottle. I felt a bit better than usual, and I think I had more energy. When I went home for the night, I did forget the bottle at school. I want to remember to fill it and bring in the car, because I was thirsty on the drive home.

Entry # 1, Getting started...

Everyone knows that humans need water to live. We learn at a young age that we need eight cups of water a day to be healthy. But is that true? For many years I have been trying to get into a better habit of drinking water throughout my day. For some reason, I have not been able to get this good habit going! When I asked the students to practice their self control to end a bad habit and start a healthy one, I knew this would be a great chance for me to finally start drinking more water. I am trying to start a healthy habit of staying more hydrated.

I believe that my challenge will be taking the time to prepare a bottle of water in the morning and fill it throughout the day. My first strategy will be to select a bottle I think will work well for me. My second strategy will be to fill the bottle the night before the next day while I am making my lunch. I already have the healthy habit of making my lunch for the next day each night. I will use this established habit to help support my new one! The picture shows which water bottle I selected. I selected this one because I like the size, it is easy to drink from and has a top that I like. I do not like the squirt kind of water bottles because it makes me feel like I'm on the field, and I do not like the the tops that are attached because you have to hold them back while you drink. I think this will be a good water bottle for me. Here is a video explaining the benefits of drinking water from HealthiNation, an accredited health content provider:
